Dads

Dads are usually thought of as these mythical beings that can fix or do anything.  It seems that there is nothing beyond their ability.  Then, one day, you become a Dad yourself.  That is when you discover the big secret about Dads. There is no book, no manual, no instruction sheet that covers all the situations you are going to have to deal with.  There is only past experiences and common sense.  Things that you swore when you were growing up you would never do to your children…things you swore you would always do.  Then you work all day, come home tired, and are faced with children that don’t understand how tired you are.  They want you to play, or read a book, or do something; anything with them.  Or they misbehave, and you have to decide whether a punishment is deserved, or required.  There is no right answer; only the best answer you can come up with at the time.  And then you pray you are making the right decision, or at least the decision that will do the most good, or the least harm.  And then you realize your Dad went through the same struggles, the same need to come up with answers in a test that has no solutions.  The same need to deal with demanding children when he was tired, or sore.  It is a realization that brings new respect and admiration for all the times he played with you, or read to you, when what he really wanted was to just sit down and relax.

As I said, there are no right answers.  Only answers that you know you will have to live with the rest of your life.

How much do you trust the government?

I hope it’s a lot.  We just found out that the government is recording ALL telephone conversations and all foreign web activity.  Or is it ALL web activity?  Who knows?  The government tells us it is just foreign activity, but until it was leaked, they didn’t even admit to that.  But don’t worry.  According to our President, unless you are planning terrorist acts, you have nothing to worry about.  Is this the same government that is in charge of the IRS that decides to institute a vendetta against people with different political views?  That government?  Is this the same government that wants to put a panel in place to decide who is allowed to get medical procedures under the new Obama Care?  That government?  What if some “local lone wolfs” decide to institute a vendetta against people with different political views?  No medical procedures for conservatives?  See, that’s the problem.  Unless you are absolutely above reproach, people are always going to wonder how much you can be trusted.  So far, I haven’t seen this government prove they are absolutely above reproach.  Not even close.  They like to ridicule people who ask the tough questions, or act like it’s silly to even bring something like that up.  I’ll bet the conservative groups being investigated by the IRS didn’t think it was silly.

Maybe those conservative groups were planning terrorist activities.

Attorney General is now above the law.

What, exactly, does this administration stand for?  It is certainly not the rule of law.  It is certainly not the truth.  We know what they don’t stand for.  They don’t stand for or approve of conservatives.  If you don’t believe me, ask the IRS.  That, however, is a different topic.  The topic I am now concerned with is honesty and the law.  Eric Holder is the United States Attorney General.  That means he is the head of the US Dept. of Justice and the chief law enforcement officer of the United States.  Sounds important, right?  It is.  But now, this chief law enforcement officer got up before a Congressional Hearing and swore under oath that he had never been involved with a potential prosecution of the press.  Oops!  Days later is was revealed that he signed the search warrant application calling Fox News journalist James Rosen a probable co-conspirator in a leak investigation.

Heavy stuff, right?  Unbelievable, right?  Nope.  The justice department just came out with a response saying Holder didn’t commit perjury.  Well, I guess if the guy who runs the show can lie, why can’t the people who work for him?

Back to my question.  What does this administration stand for?  Every day that Holder remains in office is proof that they are not concerned with honesty or the law.
