I saw an article today citing the number of tragic deaths to children caused by gunfire. This news story was trying to make the case for gun control. The two authors spent a lot of time and space detailing specific cases in which children were killed by guns. And yet, according to the FBI’s most recent Uniform Crime Reports, 561 children age 12 and under were killed by firearms between 2006 and 2010. That’s about 110 children a year. According to the National Hwy Safety Ass. approximately 2,000 children die each year in car accidents. Where is the outrage? Where is the call to outlaw cars, or at least outlaw children riding in cars? Where are the tragic stories detailing some specific cases to outrage the populace? The answer is, there aren’t any. Why? Because the outrage is not really over children’s deaths. The outrage is over a political cause to outlaw guns that the liberals just can’t seem to push down everyone’s throat.
